David Martín was born in León, Spain. In 2013 he was selected to study at the Reina Sofía Music School in Madrid with Professor Natalia Shakhovskaya. He received his Bachelor Grade in Professor Ivan Monighetti’s Class at the same institution, where he obtained the Award for the Most Talented Cellist given by H.M. the Queen Sofía of Spain, which has helped him to become one of the most promising musicians of his generation. He is currently finishing his Master studies at the University of the Arts in Berlin with Professor Jens Peter Maintz. He has obtained several scholarships as an important help to continue his musical education, such as the Jeunesses Musicales Madrid Scholarship, the Hezekiah Wardwell Stipendium from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Berlin or the BAföG Stipendium from the German Government.
He has also participated in cello masterclasses with Steven Isserlis, Gary Hoffman, Truls Mork, Natalia Gutman, Franz Helmerson, Daniel Müller-Schott, Philippe Muller or Gautier Capuçon and also in chamber music masterclasses with Ferenc Rados, Andras Schiff or the Alban Berg, Casals, Hagen and Artemis String Quartets, which has been for him a huge source of inspiration.
In 2018 he has received the First Prize at the “Jeunesses Musicales of Spain” National Competition, a remarkable achievement that has established him in the Spanish musical scene and allowed him to make his debut with the Spanish Radio Orchestra playing the Cello Concerto by A. Dvorak. He has also obtained the First Prize at the International Competition “Pedro Bote" in Spain and at the International Cello Competition “Villa de Llanes” in Spain, the “Francesco Geminiani" International Award in Verona, Italy, which allows him to play a beautiful Francesco Guadagnini cello from 1888 and more recently, the Third Prize Third at the last “Domenico Gabrielli” International Cello Competition in Berlin.
David has participated in very important festivals and music halls around the world. He took part of the prestigious Masterclasses at Kronberg Academy, the International Festival “AlppenKlassik” in Bad Reichenhal, the “Encuentro y Academia” Festival in Santander, the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival in Lübeck, the Villars Music Academy in Switzerland, the Rutesheim Cello Festival, the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Germany or the International Casals Festivals in Puerto Rico. He has recently done a tour in the US thanks to the Spanish Embassy in Washington DC.
David has played as soloist with important orchestras such as de Spanish Radio Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Stuttgart, the Norddeutsche Symphony Orchestra, the Jenaer Philharmonie, the Baden Baden Symphony Orchestra or the DC Strings Orchestra.
